FEBRUARY 2008 meetup

This is Black History Month and the Month of LOVE. I hope everyone has checked out the Calendar and taken part in some of the Exciting Events. February's meetup we will be a 3 FOLD celebration. We will begin in Old Town celebrating Black History Month by attending an Casa Del Rey Moro Museum located on Congress Ave http://www.homeandabroad.com/c/23/Site/35249_Casa_Del_Rey_Moro_Museum_visit.html.

Dussini's warm and friendly atmosphere sets us apart from other steak houses and Italian restaurants in the Gas Lamp Quarter. The beautiful brickwork interior consists of three main levels: main floor, mezzanine and upstairs lounge with fireplace, loft bar and billiard room.

To enhance the flow and add to Dussini's cozy atmosphere, a brushed steel staircase climbs through the center of the building?s main floor dividing the dining area in two. Another highlight of the restaurant is a three-story wine room which rises from the restaurant?s lower level and up through the mezzanine floor. The temperature-controlled room is encased in steel and glass. There is also a patio for outdoor dining in warmer weather and free wireless internet access!

This week our feature is BESSKEPP?HBO Def Poet, author, and a member of two national slam teams, Besskepp merges originality and heritage with performance and at countless colleges, cafes, arenas, festivals, and coffeehouses. Twice named Teacher of the Year, he was featured by the Los Angeles Times for his academic innovation that incorporates Hip Hop and Poetry into the classroom. By mixing classical structure with an urban flavor, Besskepp creates poetry that deconstructs the complex issues facing youth today through non-elitist language.

Come experience the resurrection of spoken word! Elevated! is a creative arts experience that is guaranteed to uplift, inspire and move you through spoken word, music, and visual art. Elevated! features nationally, internationally, and locally renowned poets. The open mic encourages up-and- coming artists to showcase their skills and talent. Come to listen, express, and get ELEVATED!

Balboa Park December Nights

Balboa Park December Nights presented by Barona, San Diego?s favorite kick-off to the holiday season, will take place for the 30th consecutive year on Friday, December 7, 5:00-10:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 8, noon-10:00 p.m. In the spirit of the holidays, participating Balboa Park museums open their doors free of charge from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. both evenings. The beloved San Diego event features sparkling lights, theatrical and musical entertainment, and exotic Food/Spirits throughout the Park. ?My Ancestor?s Village,? created by Barona, shares the rich culture of San Diego?s Native American community with December Nights visitors. The largest free community festival in San Diego, December Nights is expected to attract more than 300,000 visitors over two days.
